A Facebook Case Study
Chilindo is a Thai ecommerce startup that sells everything from electronics to household items through an auction model where customers bid for deals as low as $0.10. Facing the challenge of quickly growing its user base and converting cart abandoners, Chilindo relied on Facebook as its primary advertising channel to expand reach, acquire new customers and retarget shoppers.
Chilindo implemented a three-step Facebook strategy—drive registrations, encourage new users to log in and bid, then convert winners at checkout—using demographic and interest targeting for acquisition and Custom Audiences with the Custom Audience API to exclude acquired users and retarget product viewers and cart abandoners. Ads included video, carousel and link formats showcasing auction items. Over Oct–Dec 2016 Facebook helped Chilindo reach 35.7 million people (about 79% of Thais on Facebook), acquire 865,300 new registered users and process 896,600 online orders.
