Bitdefender, a Romanian cybersecurity firm that protects over 500 million devices in more than 100 countries, aimed to drive online holiday sales with a 50% discount promotion. The challenge was making a technical, sometimes sombre product feel festive and compelling enough to cut through seasonal offer fatigue and prompt purchases.
Bitdefender ran eye‑catching Christmas‑themed illustrated ads and cinemagraphs on Facebook, using conversion campaigns with Custom Audiences (cart abandoners) and lookalike targeting to reach 18–65‑year‑olds in the US. The two‑phase December campaign delivered strong results: an average 2.4X return on ad investment, one ad set at 3.2X, and a 5.8% average conversion rate.
