Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles accelerates data migration and improves data quality

Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles (RI DMV), which serves about one million residents, undertook a data modernization to consolidate 40 legacy databases into a single customer-record system and meet REAL ID requirements. The agency needed to migrate credential and vehicle records, validate more than 30 years of free-form legacy data, and accelerate the migration while verifying business rules and data accuracy.

Experian provided a data quality management solution and consulting that prototyped mapping rules up front, ran iterative mock conversions, and automated validation alongside existing SQL work. The approach cut rework, boosted stakeholder confidence in migrated data, and shortened the project from an estimated two years to about six months—achieving a 100% cutover and on-time go-live.
