A Experian Case Study
One of the ten largest U.S. banks — serving over eight million customers from 1,300 locations — faced a Basel II compliance challenge after rapid growth through acquisitions left gaps in required five‑year historical data for retail credit portfolios (cards, mortgages, auto). With an aggressive regulatory deadline, the bank needed a partner to develop sophisticated credit‑risk models and to locate or recreate the missing historical data.
Experian Global Consulting used its extensive archives (7+ years of account‑level bureau data on more than 280 million consumers) to augment the bank’s records, created a pooled dataset, and applied rigorous matching and de‑duplication to ensure representativeness. Experian then developed and validated Probability of Default models against the reconstructed five‑year history, delivered documentation and scoring instructions, and completed the one‑year engagement—enabling the bank to meet Basel II requirements and positioning the firms for future collaboration.
