Save Indian Farmers uses Exotel to Reach Out to the Farmers

Save Indian Farmers, a US‑based non-profit focused on preventing farmer suicides and supporting affected families, faced a communication challenge: many farmers in rural India have poor or limited internet access, making online outreach ineffective. To bridge this gap they turned to Exotel and its calling services to create a simpler, phone‑based way for farmers to reach them.

Exotel provided a virtual number and voice‑message calling system that lets farmers call in local languages and leave messages; Save Indian Farmers volunteers then call back to help with government, university and NGO queries. Running a pilot in Maharashtra using Exotel’s service, the team says the program has helped save at least 16 drought‑hit families and they plan to expand the approach across India.
