A ExOne Case Study
Liberty Pattern, a third-generation pattern shop, faced increasing demand from its aerospace foundry customers for complex castings and the need to innovate beyond traditional hard tooling methods. To meet this challenge, they turned to vendor ExOne and invested in their S-Max® sand 3D printing technology to bring binder jetting capabilities in-house.
ExOne's solution enabled Liberty Pattern to implement a hybrid tooling approach, combining traditional pattern making with on-demand 3D printing of complex sand cores. The results included the ability to take on new low-volume jobs, reverse engineer and produce cores quickly when traditional tooling was lost, and significantly reduce the number of cores needed for complex parts. This led to better tolerances, unlocked new business, and drove such rapid growth that Liberty Pattern expanded its fleet to four ExOne S-Max® printers.
