A ExOne Case Study
Eisengiesserei Mezger, a Swiss iron foundry of 45 employees specializing in prototypes, limited runs and replacement parts, needed faster, more flexible core and mold production to respond quickly to customer requests. After meeting ExOne at Gießereitag 2018, Mezger brought production in‑house by selecting ExOne’s S-Max Pro 3D printer using the company’s patented binder‑jetting technology.
ExOne delivered a highly automated S-Max Pro system (with Fluidmatic, Jobmatic and a desanding station) that produces single‑piece sand cores and molds, reducing part count and post‑processing. The system can print up to 20 cores in one run, build a raw cast part in as little as three working days, applies sand layers in ~22 seconds and prints a full jobbox in about 12 hours, enabling 24‑hour operation with one operator per shift. ExOne’s solution also cut desanding time by up to 50% and let Mezger increase recycled sand content to as much as 80%, improving speed, cost efficiency, sustainability and opening new market opportunities.
