Improve Quality Control and Extend Part Life with Additive Manufacturing

Withheld, a mining customer, faced shortened life of metallic parts due to abrasive conditions and struggled with quality control from imported welded multi-piece assemblies. They worked with ExOne and used ExOne’s metal 3D printing technology to address these issues by rethinking the part design for decanter centrifuge strainer plates.

ExOne printed a total batch of 24 single-piece strainer plates (4 x 6 in) in one production run, enabling complex, optimized designs without extra cost and using a highly wear-resistant material. ExOne’s solution eliminated welded joints, improved consistency and quality control, extended part life through superior wear resistance, and streamlined production with reduced lead time.
