A ExOne Case Study
HV3DWorks LLC faced a challenge reproducing the top section of a Weber 40 DFI-6 carburetor for a vintage 1969 Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 V‑12 after the original had stripped threads and was leaking fuel. After searching for replacement parts, the restoration business worked with vendor ExOne, using ExOne’s binder jet 3D printing capability (ExOne M‑Flex metal printer) to reproduce the part from the original as a design guide.
ExOne modeled the part, printed a plastic test piece for fit, then produced the final component in 316 stainless steel infiltrated with bronze using its metal binder jetting technology. The project was completed in 12 weeks (CAD, printing and post‑processing), delivered parts with strong durability and designs not possible with traditional methods, and yielded $1,300 in cost savings compared with the original $2,500 part — demonstrating ExOne’s ability to shorten production time and meet the customer’s deadline.
