ExOne® Innovent+™ printer rapidly produces new product in 1 week—traditional metal injection molding, 10 - 14 weeks

MiMtechnik GmbH needed to develop fasteners for building hardware for customer evaluation, planning Metal Injection Molding (MIM) for serial production at volumes of ~600,000 pieces in year one and 1.2M thereafter. The challenge was that traditional MIM mold tooling is costly (€10,000–20,000) and has long lead times (10–14 weeks), so MiMtechnik turned to ExOne and its ExOne Innovent+™ printer to accelerate sample production.

Using the ExOne Innovent+™, ExOne enabled MiMtechnik to deliver production-ready samples in one week instead of 10–14 weeks, with tooling cost effectively €0; the binder-jetted parts used the same 316L powder and sintering process as MIM, producing final part properties that matched expectations. The rapid turnaround from ExOne led directly to a high-volume order and eliminated traditional tooling delay and expense.
