A ExOne Case Study
Cloisters on the Platte, a Jesuit retreat center, faced the challenge of creating 58 larger-than-life bronze sculptures for its Stations of the Cross exhibit through a process that was traditionally expensive and time-consuming. The customer engaged ExOne to utilize its VX1000 PMMA 3D printing service to produce the patterns for these sculptures.
ExOne implemented a solution where digitally scanned and scaled clay models were 3D printed as PMMA patterns and used in a subsequent investment casting process. This approach accelerated the manufacturing without sacrificing detail and allowed for the creation of statues up to 7 feet high. The entire project was completed in three years, resulting in the largest and most significant Stations of the Cross ever created, demonstrating the flexibility of integrating 3D printing into traditional production.
