3D Printing for Classic Cars

HV3DWorks LLC is a Pittsburgh-based automotive restoration company that reproduces rare and obsolete parts for classic cars. Facing shortages, high costs and tight deadlines for one-off components, HV3DWorks relies on ExOne’s binder jet metal 3D printing (including work on ExOne M-Flex systems) to scan, reverse-engineer and manufacture restorations that traditional methods can’t easily provide.

Using ExOne’s binder jet technology to print in 316 stainless steel infiltrated with bronze, HV3DWorks produced more than 250 parts for customers, including a four-week turnaround on hood latches that helped a client win “Best in Class” at Pebble Beach. ExOne’s process enabled design improvements, faster delivery and measurable savings — e.g., the reproduced 1951 Alfa Romeo fuel pump cost roughly $1,000 versus an estimated $2,500 original (a $1,500 savings) and a vintage Ferrari carburetor top saved $1,300 — while delivering durable, production-ready parts.
