A EXL Case Study
EXL worked with a leading life sciences companies organization developing a chronic cough drug in clinical trials. The customer needed a clearer view of patients and their healthcare providers to understand health outcomes, cost of care, patient impactability, and how to segment patients by factors such as location, medications, comorbidities, and smoking status, but it lacked enough meaningful real-world data to do so.
Using EXL’s HEOR solution and real-world data analytics, EXL helped define the chronic cough patient universe, apply clinical rules to refine the population, and segment Medicare Advantage patients into seven personas. The analysis identified 1.2 million chronic cough patients out of 6.3 million initial cough diagnoses, examined 25 comorbidity conditions, and showed that 52.7% of the study population was at least 65 years old, giving the customer actionable insights for care management, market access, prior authorization, and targeted launch planning.
