A EXL Case Study
EXL worked with leading life sciences companies to assess the total cost of care and health outcomes for patients using an asthma drug compared with similar therapies from other manufacturers. The customer needed to identify key clinical and demographic attributes across respiratory disease populations, including asthma and severe asthma, and compare performance across commercial, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid segments.
Using EXL’s Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) solution, the companies analyzed patient cohorts and compared the drug against a direct competitor biologic. EXL found that the customer’s therapy had higher total healthcare costs, driven mainly by differences in treatment protocol and greater ancillary service spending, while patient risk and comorbidity patterns were broadly similar. The analysis provided a clearer patient profile to support value-based contracting and future efforts to improve outcomes and reduce costs.
