Increasing gender diversity in STEM through targeted communication

Engineer the Future, an organization dedicated to increasing gender diversity in STEM, faced the challenge of understanding how to better target its communications and campaigns to attract more young women to these educational fields. To gain these insights, they engaged the vendor Epinion to conduct a comprehensive survey of over 1,500 young people.

Epinion analyzed the survey data to develop five distinct segments of young people, which serve as operational ideal types. This solution provides Engineer the Future with a strategic tool to ensure its communication about STEM courses is targeted towards young people’s interests and identities. Epinion's segmentation is now used in campaign briefs, media spending prioritization, and internal strategic work to help more young women see themselves in a STEM discipline.
