InterFirst Automates the Loan Process

InterFirst Mortgage Company, a large mortgage wholesaler handling 15,000–25,000 documents monthly, faced a slow, costly, and error-prone Conditions Clearing process where staff manually reviewed uploaded closing packages. CIO Alex Ulyanov selected Ephesoft (Ephesoft Transact and its OCR/intelligent document capture capabilities) to automate document classification, separation, sorting and data extraction, working with partner Zia Consulting to assess needs and plan deployment.

Zia integrated Ephesoft into InterFirst’s broker portal using Ephesoft’s Web Services API and developed an ACE (Advanced Closing Extraction) tool to automatically classify and extract hundreds of closing document types. With Ephesoft, InterFirst trained the system to over 90% accuracy for most document types (95% for closing/HUD‑1 testing), reduced review to one staff member for the remaining 10%, redeployed seven employees to higher‑value work, cut closing processing from 15 to 5 minutes per loan, and anticipates a 67% reduction in HUD‑1 processing time.
