Insurance Underwriting Firm Centralizes and Streamlines Data for Collaboration

Baldwin and Lyons, an insurance underwriting firm focused on the transportation industry, faced fragmented, siloed systems (six separate policy, claims and billing platforms) and a discontinued Oracle imaging product that left millions of documents spread across repositories. To centralize content and automate classification and extraction, they selected Alfresco as the new content hub and implemented Ephesoft Smart Capture as the intelligent capture solution.

Working with Zia Consulting to migrate content (including a rapid transfer of 10 million documents in under seven days), Baldwin and Lyons has begun a phased migration of its claims library to Alfresco with Ephesoft continuing to provide critical document capture and extraction. The deployment consolidated silos into a single system of record, improved user adoption, and established measurable goals—such as reducing roughly 300,000 printed claim materials per week and enabling secure electronic delivery—highlighting Ephesoft’s key role in the transformation.
