Epam Helps Telefónica Get Data Running 10 Times Faster

The customer, Telefónica Germany, a subsidiary of a global telecommunications giant, faced the challenge of selecting and implementing the optimal Big Data platform to enable growth and improve efficiency. They partnered with vendor EPAM Systems, whose Advanced Technology Lab used an Agile approach to evaluate three technology alternatives for their new Hadoop-based platform.

EPAM implemented and benchmarked solutions using Apache Hive, Apache Spark, and Plain Java MapReduce on their cloud infrastructure. The selected solution, which did not require additional "glue" code, enabled the processing of large amounts of data at speeds up to 10 times faster than previous methods. EPAM's work provided Telefónica with a benchmarked analysis and a scalable blueprint for future Business Intelligence solutions.
