Waste Reduction Takes Off at Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines, a Seattle-based carrier, wanted to strengthen its waste reduction and recycling efforts across five corporate office facilities in the Seattle metro area. To address missed diversion opportunities and inconsistent recycling practices, the airline worked with ENGIE Insight and its Waste Management Solutions team to assess current waste streams and improve the program.

ENGIE Insight implemented a new single-stream recycling program, facilitated a recycling RFP to select a local nonprofit vendor, and launched a communication campaign with employee signage, emails, and lunch-and-learns. The changes helped Alaska Airlines increase recycling volume by 20% and reduce annual trash volume by 830 cubic yards, while cutting waste expenses by more than 73%.
