Keeping Subscribers Satisfied During Broadband Architecture Migration

Proximus, Belgium’s largest quadplay operator, needed to migrate its broadband architecture from 10 centralized BNGs to 700+ decentralized nodes while supporting explosive IP address growth and IPv6 adoption. The key challenge was to replace error-prone local IP pool management with a centralized, high-capacity DHCP solution that could be automated, highly available and able to maintain near-zero customer impact (targeting 99.999% uptime) during the migration.

After a successful PoC, Proximus deployed EfficientIP’s high-performance centralized DHCP with geo‑redundant management and DHCP servers, managed via an intuitive GUI and APIs. The solution simplified operations (only four servers required), enabled automated, error-free provisioning, supported IPv6-PD, and provided resilient failover — allowing phased migration of tens of thousands of customers with no service impact, improved scalability and spare capacity for future growth.
