DBS Hong Kong Reinvents Its Core With Finacle

DBS Bank (DBS Hong Kong), with 34 branches and over 4,000 employees, faced aging legacy core systems that slowed account opening, customer servicing and new product launches, and limited its digital ambitions. To modernize its core and internet/mobile channels the bank selected EdgeVerve’s Finacle core banking platform and launched a 24‑month transformation to create a flexible, scalable and digital‑ready foundation.

EdgeVerve implemented Finacle in phased delivery using design thinking, UI prototyping and extensive integration (109 upstream/downstream systems) via generic APIs, middleware caching and new Java batch/extraction utilities, with a de‑risked staggered cutover. The deployment delivered measurable gains — payments now complete in half the time, cash deposit/withdrawal times down ~40%, account transfers down 20%, and FX/cheque/credit‑card cash advances processed in half the time — faster product launches, greater automation and resilience, and the program won “Core Banking System Initiative of the Year – Hong Kong.”
