A eClinicalWorks Case Study
Norman Regional Health System is a multi‑campus health system in south‑central Oklahoma with three hospitals, 460 licensed beds and more than 20 clinics offering a wide range of specialties. On May 20, 2013 an EF‑5 tornado destroyed the Moore Medical Center, displacing patients and staff and raising urgent concerns about access to medical records and continuity of care.
Because the system had implemented the eClinicalWorks EHR with remote data centers, Health Information Exchange, eClinicalMessenger and eClinicalMobile — plus virtual desktop infrastructure and single‑sign‑on — providers retained real‑time access to patient charts, meds and histories. The paperless, redundant setup let staff field calls within 48 hours, reopen clinics within a week, and maintain uninterrupted care during recovery, enabling a rapid return to normal operations and continued plans to expand and upgrade services.
