How an Established eClinicalWorks Practice Uses EHR Innovations for Better Care

River Road Medical Group is a small, independent family practice in Eugene, Oregon, serving about 4,000 patients since 1961. Facing shifts in population health management and value‑based payment reforms (MACRA/MIPS) the clinic needed to maintain high‑quality, patient‑centered care while improving efficiency and patient engagement.

Using eClinicalWorks EHR (in place since 2007) the practice rolled out Patient Portal, Messenger campaigns, Kiosk check‑in, mobile tools and targeted education, and worked closely with eClinicalWorks staff to optimize workflows. As a result, roughly 2,700 patients (about 65%) are online, colonoscopy screening compliance rose by about 30% (to ~35%), the clinic improved efficiency (reducing front‑desk workload) and in 2014 was the only practice in its CCO to meet all 12 quality benchmarks.
