A dscout Case Study
Trulia, an online real estate marketplace, wanted to understand what it was actually like to live in the neighborhoods of the homes they list, as told by residents. Their challenge was to conduct broad-scale ethnographic research without the high cost and time typically associated with travel. They chose dscout to run Diary studies for this project.
Using dscout, Trulia recruited 50 participants in Austin and Chicago to provide multimedia entries about their neighborhoods. The solution provided surprising insights, revealing that people choose a location based on amenities both inside and surrounding a neighborhood. These findings directly informed a new set of design principles for Trulia's neighborhood pages and led to a planned project with their economic research team. The work with dscout allowed them to gather deep, contextual data quickly and efficiently.
