Stanford University conducts 13 interviews on family climate learning with dscout

Stanford University researcher Veronica Lin, a doctoral candidate in the Learning Sciences and Technology Design program, partnered with dscout to investigate how technology could support families' environmental learning. The challenge was to understand the nuanced ways remote learning during the pandemic was changing our relationship with nature and to compare different models of content delivery for families with diverse beliefs about climate change.

dscout provided a mixed-methods solution using its Diary and Recruit tools for an unmoderated study, followed by Live interviews. This approach allowed for the collection of rich, qualitative data at scale from a diverse sample of families across the U.S. The research revealed key insights, including a frequent misalignment between parents' stated beliefs about climate change and their actions, and provided a clearer picture of the opportunity space for educational technology to better support everyday environmental learning.
