A DocuWare Case Study
Tyrol Air Ambulance, an Innsbruck‑based air ambulance service founded in 1976, needed to replace an aging Lotus Notes setup with a modern, DSGVO‑compliant document management solution to centralize project information, reduce paper, and handle growing data volumes across accounting, medical assistance, purchasing, engineering and other departments. Key requirements included tightly controlled access to sensitive medical data, easy-to-build digital workflows, and a seamless interface with their BMD accounting system.
They implemented DocuWare on‑premises, piloted a flight‑ambulance quoting workflow, then rolled the solution out to multiple departments; scanned invoices and receipts are indexed, routed for approval, and posted to BMD automatically. Adoption was rapid (employees were productive within a week), about half the 100 staff now use the central document pool, and the organization gained faster, more traceable processes, fewer errors, improved communication and greater competitiveness — with plans to expand into electronic project files and digital contract management.
