A DocuWare Case Study
Salco Products, a manufacturer of vented hatch covers for railway hopper cars founded in 1983, supports over 500 customers and must meet strict Federal Railroad Administration and Association of American Railroads documentation and retention requirements. Storing files on a local network led to lost or deleted folders and made audit response slow and risky, so the company needed a reliable way to control, find and retain records.
Salco implemented DocuWare (installed in 2019 after a ~10‑month migration) to centralize storage and automate retention; today more than 100 users access a Compliance Cabinet holding 746,000 documents and over a terabyte of data (storage expanded three times). DocuWare also runs 30–40 daily workflows—such as nonconformance and drawing/procedure updates—speeding document retrieval, improving organization across manuals, training and procedures, and ensuring automatic deletion at the end of retention periods.
