Langenscheidt Editorial Group, a long-established Munich-based publisher, faced slow retrieval and strained customer service after accumulating thousands of paper records and outgrowing its first document management system. The company needed a new solution that could migrate data from its legacy imaging system and AS/400 order system, secure records for audits, and speed up response times—starting with the order processing department.

Langenscheidt implemented DocuWare, migrating existing archives into a shared electronic document pool accessible across departments and integrated with the AS/400 workflow. The system now automatically files about 800 orders and 250 incoming records daily, streams contracts into searchable files, eliminates roughly 36 meters of annual shelf space, saves about 2,700 staff hours per year, and enables much faster, audit-ready responses to customer inquiries.
