A Digital Realty Case Study
National Australia Bank (NAB), a major financial services group serving more than 12 million customers with 45,000 employees, launched a multibillion-dollar, 10-year Total Environment Transformation to modernize its technology and data-center footprint. The bank needed to consolidate 20+ smaller sites, replace an aging secondary center, reduce costs and carbon emissions, eliminate legacy-system risk, and create a flexible, scalable “primary‑all” architecture able to run the entire bank.
Digital Realty delivered a customized 5,600 m² Tier III-certified Deer Park facility using its Turn‑Key Flex architecture—incorporating 2N power, free‑air cooling, low‑water design, rainwater harvesting, solar thermal and an integrated white‑space fit-out—on schedule in early 2013. The project consolidated infrastructure, improved deployment speed and operational flexibility, achieved a PUE below 1.3 (reducing technology power use by roughly 40% versus legacy sites), earned industry recognition and runs 24/7 under proven processes that support industry-leading availability.
