University of Waterloo boosts math engagement with DigitalEd’s virtual escape rooms, earning 87% student approval

The University of Waterloo sought to make mathematics more approachable and engaging by introducing gamified learning. Their challenge was to motivate students for additional practice and foster peer collaboration. They used the Möbius platform from vendor DigitalEd to address this.

DigitalEd's Möbius platform enabled faculty to create virtual escape rooms and a choose-your-own-adventure story, allowing students to practice course content collaboratively and enjoyably. The results were highly positive, with 87% of students reporting the escape rooms helped them learn. The activities increased student confidence, made math more fun, and were so successful they were adopted by other institutions.
