Online Courseware Enhances First-Year Engineering Course

The University of Birmingham’s School of Engineering, led by Dr. Tim Jackson, needed a way to simplify a large first-year engineering course and help incoming students who had not studied the subject in depth. DigitalEd’s Möbius courseware was selected to support teaching a class of 370 students and better bridge the gap between high school and university-level material.

Using DigitalEd’s Möbius, the team created background materials, pre-lab quizzes, and post-lab assessments to connect theory with lab work and support independent learning. The result was nearly 100% completion of the optional preparatory work, stronger student competence in labs, and more instructor time freed up for face-to-face support.
