A Development Dimensions International Case Study
Texas Children’s Hospital, one of the nation’s largest pediatric hospitals, needed to make leadership development a core business strategy as it prepared for rapid growth. Despite strong external recognition, the hospital was facing hidden talent issues, including 3,500 employee departures over three years, leadership cited in exit interviews, and 8,000 annual calls to employee relations for help. Development Dimensions International helped Texas Children’s build a shared commitment to leadership excellence and align the organization around a common direction.
Development Dimensions International facilitated the creation of the hospital’s Guiding Principles and then helped implement a suite of aligned talent systems, including Success Profiles, Targeted Selection, Maximizing Performance, and the Catalyst Leadership program. The results were measurable: leadership disappeared from the top reasons for departure, turnover fell 6 percent to 11 percent, hotline calls dropped 60 percent, and employee engagement scores ranked in the top 1 percent of U.S. health care organizations.
