A Development Dimensions International Case Study
Constellium, the aluminium fabricator with 8,500 employees and 22 sites worldwide, was working to embed lean across the business and improve performance after becoming an independent company. A key challenge was strengthening frontline leaders’ soft management skills so they could support the lean transformation, communicate effectively, and move beyond a purely technical, firefighting mindset. Constellium partnered with Development Dimensions International to address this, using a leadership development and train-the-trainer approach.
Development Dimensions International designed and delivered a lean leadership curriculum for 350 frontline managers, with around 50 leaders certified as trainers across eight global sessions and the content customized for different regions and APUs. The program improved feedback, difficult conversations, and coaching skills, leading to better collaboration and more proactive problem-solving. Constellium reported a four-point increase in employee engagement and satisfaction scores between 2012 and 2014, while annual training hours rose from 3,000 to 10,000.
