Case Study: The Federated Group Improves Customs Accuracy and Speed with Descartes

A Descartes Case Study

The Federated Group Makes the EDI Connection Through Descartes

The Federated Group, a long-established customs broker and logistics provider serving major ports and border crossings in Canada and the U.S., needed to move away from paper-based customs processing to improve speed, accuracy, and compliance. Working with Descartes, the company sought a more automated, electronic approach to handling high volumes of shipment and customs data while reducing re-keying errors and delays.

Descartes implemented its Global Logistics Network (GLN) and ViaTrade customs compliance solutions to help The Federated Group exchange data electronically with partners and government agencies, including PARS and RMD submissions to the Canada Border Services Agency. As a result, Federated expanded EDI to 20% of its processes with a goal of 50%, improved data accuracy, reduced staffing and storage costs, shortened delivery and transit times, and gave customers better online tracking and tracing capabilities.
