Robert Bosch Descartes Transportation Management Yields Savings and Enhances Control of High-Volume Fulfillment Operations

Robert Bosch Inc. Canada, a high-volume distributor of automotive aftermarket parts, power tools, accessories, and security systems, needed a better way to manage a complex mix of parcel, truckload, LTL, and rail shipments from its Mississauga warehouse. Its existing process relied on manual rating, routing, and paperwork for larger orders, while customer service teams lacked timely information and Bosch often defaulted to a single LTL carrier. Bosch selected Descartes’ Transportation Management solution, specifically the Pick, Pack and Ship module, to create a more flexible, unified shipping process.

Descartes implemented a multi-carrier shipping solution integrated with Bosch’s WMS and SAP/AS/400 environment, enabling near real-time data exchange, automated rating and routing, label and bill-of-lading generation, daily manifesting, and EDI support. The result was improved control and efficiency across all shipment sizes, from small parcels to full loads, with Bosch reporting error-free documents, eliminated handwritten paperwork, and significant personnel-time savings. While Bosch had not yet quantified the financial impact, Descartes was helping reduce reliance on manual processes and improve carrier selection and fulfillment productivity.
