Cargo Express Turns to DescartesGLN to Deliver End-to-End Visibility

Cargo Express, a transportation logistics provider specializing in ocean import/export, needed better real-time visibility into shipments moving from factories in China to its U.S. distribution network. Working with Descartes, the company sought to reduce manual processes, improve control from the point of origin, and cut costly delays, demurrage, and per diem charges tied to poor shipment timing and container management.

Descartes implemented the Descartes Global Logistics Network (GLN) to connect Cargo Express with factories, warehouses, and trading partners through EDI messages such as warehouse receipt advice and shipping orders. The solution enabled real-time shipment visibility and more flexible routing decisions, helping the customer improve load factor by 8% to 10%, shift about 30% of volume to lower-cost longer-lead-time options, and significantly reduce demurrage charges and freight costs.
