A Descartes Case Study
Caleres, Inc., the global footwear company behind brands like Famous Footwear, Naturalizer, Dr. Scholl’s, and Sam Edelman, needed a more efficient and cost-effective way to replenish more than 1,200 retail stores across North America. As its business expanded beyond regional coverage, Caleres wanted better visibility, more predictable deliveries, and a transportation model that could handle frequent LTL-volume shipments with parcel-like control. To address this challenge, Caleres turned to Descartes Pool Distribution software.
Descartes implemented a pool distribution network linking Caleres’ distribution centers to pool points operated by logistics service providers, with carton-level tracking at every stage from DC to store. The solution improved store replenishment speed, inventory control, and shipment visibility while reducing losses and claims; Caleres also eliminated its private fleet and lowered transportation and store operating costs. Caleres reported 98.5% compliance with 2-hour delivery windows, along with greater distribution efficiency, higher on-time performance, and tangible cost savings.
