Case Study: Surf Life Saving School achieves a two-thirds cut in admin time and expands teaching reach with Deputy

A Deputy Case Study

Preview of the Surf Life Saving School Case Study

Since bringing Deputy onboard we’re finding great savings and productivity enhancements

Surf Life Saving School (SLSS) is a Sydney not‑for‑profit that teaches surf safety to about 16,000 primary and secondary students each year, deploying teams of instructors across classrooms and seven beaches. Ambitious plans to expand into new areas — and better serve disadvantaged and special‑needs children — were being held back by manual, paper‑based rostering and clunky payroll systems that ate up managers’ time.

SLSS adopted Deputy, a cloud‑based workforce management tool, to automate rules‑based rostering, enable mobile access and use Open Shifts for quick replacements. The change sped up payroll, gave managers visibility to lead more teams in multiple locations, supported flexible scheduling for young instructors, and cut administrative time by around two‑thirds, freeing staff to focus on teaching and programme growth.
