Dublin-based Coffeeangel, founded by Karl Purdy in 2004, grew from a single coffee cart into a multi-site specialty coffee chain with six outlets and an online store. Rapid expansion exposed the limits of manual rotas and logbooks—Excel-based scheduling led to payroll errors and became unworkable for multi-shop staff transfers, holiday requests and consistent team communication.

In March 2017 Coffeeangel implemented Deputy (Scheduling, Kiosk timesheets, Tasking, News Feed) with integrations to BambooHR and Talech and plans for Xero, automating timesheets and approvals and syncing net sales with labour costs. The change delivered faster admin, clearer manager insights to match staffing to demand, improved team communication, reduced costs and paperwork, and helped maintain high service standards while enabling scalable growth.
