Case Study: St Joseph’s Hospice saves time and reduces agency use with Deputy

A Deputy Case Study

Deputy helps St Joseph’s Hospice give the best care possible to its patients

St Joseph’s Hospice is an independent London charity (est. 1908) providing free end-of-life and palliative care with around 380 staff, mostly nurses and healthcare assistants. Rostering was slow and error-prone using Excel published to a noticeboard, making it hard to fill shifts, relying on agency staff, and creating unfair, time-consuming manual call-outs.

After a trial in 2017 the hospice adopted Deputy’s scheduling app, which publishes shifts, sends notifications, and opens shifts to temporary staff. The result: better attendance and communication, reduced agency use, increased use of internal temporary workers, and savings of roughly half-a-day to a full day of admin time per fill—freeing managers to focus on HR and clinical care.
