W. Short Hotel Group (WSHG) is a family-run Sydney hospitality group with more than 30 years’ experience operating iconic pubs and hotels and employing over 350 staff across many venues, managing more than 1,000 shifts per week in peak season. The group struggled with an outdated, local-server rostering system that only allowed single-user access, required printed rosters pinned at venues, generated countless phone calls and scribbled changes, and left managers without clear visibility of staff qualifications—making shift coverage, compliance and efficient rostering difficult and time-consuming.
Moving to the cloud-based Deputy platform solved those problems: managers can build and update rosters anywhere, staff receive schedules by SMS/email and use the app to view shifts, clock in/out and swap availability, and Deputy filters only suitably qualified employees (e.g., RCG-certified) for specific roles. Digitized tasks and checklists, remote oversight, and quick mass messaging have dramatically reduced admin time—WSHG reports virtually no calls asking “when am I working”—while improving compliance and overall operating efficiency.
