Westgate Resorts standardizes on integrated storage and data protection in the cloud to deliver quick, responsive customer service and reduce costs

Westgate Resorts, one of the world’s largest resort developers, faced rapid data growth from business expansion and strict retention requirements for call recordings. Their legacy backup environment (NetBackup appliances and tape) meant nightly and monthly full backups could take up to 5–12 hours, and their Oracle production database was growing by about 2 TB per month. To speed recoveries, reduce backup windows and move off tape, Westgate standardized on Dell Technologies’ Dell EMC storage and data protection solutions, including Data Domain, Data Domain Boost, Data Domain Cloud Tier, Data Protection Software, Isilon and Unity, with Azure integration.

Dell Technologies implemented a hybrid on-premises and cloud protection architecture using Data Domain appliances with Data Domain Boost to accelerate backups and Data Domain Cloud Tier to tier long‑term data to Microsoft Azure without rehydration, while Isilon and Unity provided primary storage. The result: nightly backups shrank to about one hour and full backups to three hours (an ~80% reduction in nightly backup time), easier management of on‑premises and cloud backups, improved data access and scalability, lower costs and faster service for customers.
