UTSA positions itself at the forefront of research innovation and learning with a hybrid cloud

The University of Texas at San Antonio faced IT sprawl and siloed, under‑desk systems that hindered student access and researcher productivity. To build a flexible, scalable modern IT environment, UTSA partnered with Dell Technologies, deploying VMware Cloud Foundation on Dell VxRail along with Dell Technologies VDI solutions and Dell OptiPlex thin clients to deliver a secure, high‑performance hybrid cloud and virtual desktop infrastructure.

Dell Technologies implemented VxRail hyperconverged infrastructure and a full VDI stack so researchers and students can provision and access resources on demand. The solution cut provisioning time from six weeks to two (about 3x faster), consolidated five data centers into two and reduced total cost of ownership three‑fold, while lowering space, power, heating and cooling expenses by roughly 70%, enabling remote learning and faster research innovation.
