University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine implements VDI with Dell Technologies and NVIDIA solutions to provide excellent instructional user experiences and simplify IT management

The University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine needed to modernize its instructional technology and enable fully remote teaching during the pandemic. Working with Dell Technologies, the school implemented a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) using Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 servers, Dell Wyse Zero Clients and NVIDIA vGPU technology (NVIDIA T4 GPUs and NVIDIA Quadro vDWS) to improve application access and the overall user experience.

Dell Technologies’ VDI deployment—three NVIDIA T4 GPUs per PowerEdge R740 and 650 Quadro vDWS licenses—now supports about 900 users (roughly 500 students) and enabled a seamless shift to remote classes with no interruptions during COVID-19. Measurable impacts include reducing software-update time from 160 hours to 2 hours, significant gains in system performance and responsiveness, simplified IT management, and improved instructional capabilities that help attract students and faculty.
