Case Study: The University of Texas at San Antonio achieves faster time-to-science and improved IT performance with Dell Technologies

A Dell Technologies Case Study

Preview of the University of Texas at San Antonio Case Study

Time to science accelerated with digital transformation

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) was struggling with slow system performance, outages in its student information system and an aging high-performance computing (HPC) environment that delayed researchers’ access to data. To modernize its enterprise IT, UTSA partnered with Dell Technologies, deploying solutions such as Dell EMC PowerScale, VMware Cloud Foundation on Dell EMC VxRail and Dell EMC PowerEdge servers to improve performance, scalability, cybersecurity and business continuity.

Dell Technologies consolidated UTSA’s HPC, research and archival assets onto PowerScale, implemented VxRail-based hybrid cloud and upgraded compute with PowerEdge, delivering faster insights and stronger data protection. The changes let IT provision compute to researchers within four hours instead of months, are expected to raise IT innovation resources from 20% to 30%, improve student registration availability from 86% to 99%, boost performance by 147%, support billions of records for analytics/AI, and reduce the IT operational run rate.
