Southern California Institute of Architecture helps students create future of design with innovative data protection in the cloud

Southern California Institute of Architecture, a top-ranked design school, faced rapid data growth (about 20% annually) that threatened reliable backups of heavy student animation and graphics archives. The school partnered with Dell Technologies, deploying Dell EMC solutions — including Cloud Disaster Recovery, Data Domain appliances, Data Protection Software and VxRail — to modernize protection for VMware workloads stored on-premises and in AWS.

Dell Technologies’ Dell EMC stack delivered faster, simpler backups and recovery through a single pane of glass: 90% of VMs now back up within one hour and backup windows were cut from 36 to 3 hours. Deduplication and compression reduced 570 TB of backup data to 10 TB, cloud backup retention was extended to two years, a secondary DR was eliminated, the cloud footprint shrank, and staff now spend far less time managing backups.
