Case Study: Gordon Food Service achieves on-time 20,000 daily deliveries and 4.5:1 data reduction with Dell Technologies PowerMax NVMe storage

A Dell Technologies Case Study

Preview of the Gordon Food Service Case Study

Serving up data is a recipe for success at Gordon Food Service

Gordon Food Service, a major North American foodservice distributor that makes more than 20,000 deliveries daily to over 100,000 customers, was hitting storage performance and latency limits in its VMware vSphere environment and Oracle databases. To keep routing, pricing and delivery systems responsive as it scaled, Gordon Food Service engaged Dell Technologies and deployed Dell EMC PowerMax 2000 NVMe flash storage alongside Dell EMC XtremIO, Unity, Data Domain and Data Protection Suite.

Dell Technologies delivered end-to-end NVMe PowerMax arrays with SRDF replication and SnapVX snapshots, plus complementary Dell EMC storage and protection tools, providing high I/O, low latency, inline deduplication/compression and rapid recovery. The solution produced a 4.5:1 data reduction ratio (about 80TB stored in a 24TB array), dramatically reduced rack footprint and management effort, enables database recoveries in minutes instead of hours, and helps keep 20,000 daily deliveries on time.
