Case Study: UZ Brussel achieves faster medical-app performance and upgraded VDI with Dell Technologies PowerEdge servers (AMD EPYC)

A Dell Technologies Case Study

Preview of the UZ Brussel Case Study

PowerEdge servers with AMD EPYC provide faster performance for medical applications and end-user VDI

UZ Brussel, a Flemish university hospital that also supplies the PrimUZ electronic patient record system to other Belgian hospitals, needed to expand virtualization and improve performance to support clinical applications and a large virtual desktop infrastructure. To meet those needs it worked with Dell Technologies to evaluate and adopt Dell EMC PowerEdge servers powered by AMD EPYC processors.

Dell Technologies deployed about 50 Dell EMC PowerEdge R7515/R7525 systems with AMD EPYC (7402P, 7F72, 7502) to host medical apps and VDI. The new infrastructure cut an intranet app boot from ~10 to 3 minutes and made the PrimUZ continuous build 40% faster, supported ~1,500 concurrent VDI users, enabled hundreds of staff upgrades to Windows 10, reduced VMware licensing by half via single‑socket servers, and allowed larger memory configurations (up to 2TB), improving performance and lowering costs.
