Novant Health unifies data protection strategy for smarter decision making, better patient care and streamlined operations with Dell EMC and VMware

Novant Health, a not‑for‑profit integrated healthcare system with 15 hospitals and 700 medical facilities, faced growing data volumes and fragmented legacy backup technologies that stretched backup windows and burdened IT. To modernize and unify its protection strategy, Novant Health turned to Dell Technologies, implementing a Dell EMC Data Protection infrastructure including Dell EMC Data Domain and Data Domain Boost to protect critical workloads such as Epic electronic health records.

Dell Technologies deployed a consolidated Data Domain‑based backup environment across two data centers to protect 30 PB of data, 4,000 VMware VMs and physical servers. The unified Dell EMC solution delivered a 30:1 deduplication ratio, cut a critical Epic database backup from 10–12 hours to 4–5 hours (up to 66% faster), sped VM backups, reduced backup management overhead, and freed IT to focus on clinical and operational improvements while scaling for anticipated 20–25% data growth.
