Northampton College saves money and boosts performance with a hyperconverged infrastructure

Northampton College, which supports 8,000 students and 900 staff, faced imminent end-of-warranty for its mission-critical servers and needed a modern, easy-to-manage replacement to sustain teaching and learning (including remote access) for the next five years. The college chose a solution from Dell Technologies—specifically Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 Microsoft Storage Spaces Direct Ready Nodes—delivered in partnership with Dell Technologies Platinum Partner Nviron.

Dell Technologies and Nviron implemented a hyperconverged infrastructure based on the PowerEdge R740 Ready Nodes and completed the migration within weeks. The new Dell Technologies solution reduced routine admin tasks from minutes to seconds, handled 9,000 remote access connections without issue, consolidated 13 servers into four nodes, simplified backup and DR, and is projected to cut power and cooling costs by around 50%, saving the college thousands of pounds.
